Why Nick Lachey was crying when ‘Newlyweds’ show ended

Nick Lachey revealed he turned overwhelmed with emotion when he wrapped filming on his and ex-wife Jessica Simpson’s MTV actuality collection, “Newlyweds.”

The “Love Is Blind” host received candid about his expertise on the early 2000s TV show on the “Richer Lives” podcast final week.

“I actually came to really love the crew,” Lachey stated. “I remember crying the day we shut down because you develop relationships with them. They really became family.”

Lachey defined the shut bond he fashioned with the manufacturing crew whereas filming three seasons of the collection from 2003 to 2005 — after initially being advised to disregard them.

“I remember at first they were like, ‘Don’t talk to the crew. They’re a fly on the wall!” he recalled.

“And I was like, ‘Guys, if this is ever going to work, that’s just not how I’m wired. You’re not going to be in my house and watch my every move, and we’re not going to talk to each other. We got to get past that right now.’”

Elsewhere within the podcast, Lachey shared that the success of “Newlyweds” was “totally unexpected.”

“My ex-wife had an album coming out, I had an album coming out,” he stated.

“We had no idea it was going to take on this other life of being this reality fly-on-the-wall type of show.”

The “Love Is Blind” host shared that he was initially advised to disregard the crew when filming started.

Lachey, now 51, and Simpson, now 44, tied the knot in 2002 and cut up in 2006.

At the time, they launched an announcement saying they had been separating after “careful thought and consideration,” per People.

Lachey admitted he still has “scars” from their divorce throughout Season 3 “The Ultimatum,” which dropped on Netflix final December.

The 98 Degrees alum tied the knot with Vanessa Lachey in 2011, they usually share three children: Camden John, 12, Brooklyn Elisabeth, 10, and Phoenix Robert, 8.

Simpson, in the meantime, married Eric Johnson in 2014, they usually additionally share youngsters: Maxwell Drew, 12, Ace Knute, 11, and Birdie Mae, 6. 

The “Dukes of Hazzard” star announced her separation from Johnson in January after 10 years of marriage.
