King Charles, identified for his personal zeal for environmental safety, seems to have inherited his mom’s admiration for Attenborough. The two first met when the then Prince was simply 9 years previous, when he got here all the way down to the BBC studios to satisfy Attenborough’s cockatoo. David, then in his twenties, was fearful that his pet would chew Charles’ finger off, however he instructed BBC’s The Eve of The Coronation present in 2023 that ‘all was well and it was a very happy occasion’. He added that Charles ‘saw very clearly the importance of the natural world right from a small child,’ and now the duo are considered close because of their shared frequent pursuits.
As Attenborough stresses in his new launch, ‘the ocean can recover faster than we thought possible. If we just let nature take its course, the sea will save itself. If we save the sea, we save our world.’ In a significant speech on the Our Ocean Conference in 2017, King Charles expressed an analogous view, saying: ‘Mine is not a new commitment, but perhaps you will allow me to restate my determination to join you in continuing to do whatever I can, for as long as I can, to maintain not only the health and vitality of the ocean and all that depends upon it, but also the viability of that greatest and most unique of living organisms – nature herself.’
